A similar sphere of action to that governing part 1 is also evident in part 2, with significant parallels appearing; many of Raskolnikov’s walks here retrace his steps from part 1, particularly when he crosses to Vasilevskii Island (marked in red). There is a slightly larger number of events, with more variety. This is the point of maximal activity, with a quick succession of encounters and incidents directing the action, as is also reflected in the convoluted route of his evening walk (marked in blue), which takes him to the Crystal Palace tavern, the pawnbroker’s and to Marmeladov’s.
