A significant change in the sphere and scope of the action is apparent in part 3, with everything taking place in the streets adjascent to Raskolnikov’s flat, and the lodgings of characters who have only just appeared, Sonia, and Raskolnikov’s mother and sister, hosting significant scenes.
The one event in the novel that cannot be mapped, Raskolnikov’s first interview with Porfiry, which takes place at Porfiry’s flat, occurs in this part, but this is also apparently very close to Raskolnikov’s.
